After the court has made either a temporary or final order of custody, the court will order the non-custodial parent to pay child support. A child support order states a specific amount of money to be paid at a specified time by the non-custodial parent. This money is for the care of the child. Child support is calculated through specific formulas based on combined parental income and the number of children. In addition to basic child support, the court will order the non-custodial parent to pay a percentage of various add-ons including childcare, unreimbursed medical expenses, private school tuition and camp costs.
