Mark I. Schreck, Esq.

With over three decades of dedicated practice in matrimonial law, Mark I. Schreck is renowned for his unparalleled expertise, unwavering commitment and compassionate approach in guiding clients through the complexities of family law matters. As a seasoned advocate, he has successfully represented countless individuals in navigating divorce, child custody, spousal support, and property division with skill and proficiency.

Mark I. Schreck earned his Juris Doctor degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1995. His first taste of matrimonial law came during a summer spent interning in the courtroom of Justice William Rigler, a highly acclaimed judge sitting in the matrimonial part of Kings County Supreme Court.

Following law school, Mark became associated with a boutique matrimonial firm in Manhattan where he further sharpened his skills in the field by dealing with individual clients and learning to cater to their needs on an individual basis. Subsequently, he joined a well-known firm which served as general counsel to many law enforcement unions including the New York City Detectives Endowment Association, Lieutenants Benevolent Association, Correction Officers Benevolent Association as well as members of the Transport Workers Union. After a short time, Mark was asked to manage that firm’s domestic relations department. As a department head, Mark was responsible for supervising attorneys and paralegals in the representation of hundreds of clients in matters of custody, support, equitable distribution, divorce and post-judgment enforcement in both Supreme and Family Courts. 

Throughout his career, Mark has cultivated a reputation for responsiveness to client needs, strategic insights and a formidable presence. He approaches each case with a personalized strategy, recognizing that no two family dynamics are alike. His empathetic demeanor and attentive approach to client needs have earned him the trust and respect of clients facing some of life’s most challenging transitions.

In his extensive experience with Mental Hygiene Article 81 guardianships, Mark Schreck has served as both an advocate for incapacitated children and adults and their families. He has also served as a court evaluator, allowing him to see both sides of the equation and know how best to fight for his clients. He has represented guardians, parents, and other interested parties in guardianship matters involving minors, incapacitated adults and individuals with special needs. Mark Schreck is adept at navigating the intricate legal framework surrounding guardianship appointments, termination of guardianships and disputes over guardianship decisions.

Cheryl Schreck, Esq.

Cheryl Schreck, Esq. brings over two decades of extensive legal experience to The Schreck Law Group, located in Lawrence, New York. As a seasoned attorney, Cheryl specializes in litigation, appeals, divorce proceedings and guardianships. She adeptly represents individual and corporate clients throughout New York City, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, ensuring their legal matters are handled with expertise and precision.

Before joining The Schreck Law Group, Cheryl served as a Principal Court Attorney at the Appellate Division, Second Department in Brooklyn, NY. In this role, she prepared confidential reports for Appellate Justices, covering all aspects of procedural and substantive New York law. Her responsibilities included researching and analyzing complex appellate issues in areas such as real estate and commercial matters, contract interpretation, tax certiorari, labor law, matrimonial law, child custody and abuse cases, personal injury, criminal law, and legal ethics. Cheryl’s meticulous research and analytical skills led her to draft recommendations and proposed slip opinions for court review.

Cheryl’s legal journey began with a prestigious student law clerkship for Honorable Michael B. Mukasey, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York. During this clerkship, she participated in significant cases, including the early stages of U.S. v Rahman, arising from the World Trade Center bombing. She assisted in all aspects of chambers and courtroom administration, conducting research and writing draft opinions on federal civil and criminal cases.

Cheryl earned her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, where she ranked in the top 10% of her class. She was also a member of the Arts and Entertainment Law Journal and participated in the Alexander Fellows Federal Clerkship Program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in English and Economics from Queens College in Flushing, NY, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and various honor societies, consistently earning a place on the Dean’s List.

Cheryl is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey State Courts, as well as before the United States Supreme Court and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York
